How and When You Should Be Using Four-Wheel Drive

Not everyone knows exactly how to use four-wheel drive, so we're going to discuss the basics in this handy guide.

Four-High

Four-high or 4H is used on roads that are slippery due to rain or ice but are otherwise level and smooth. It can also come in handy on gravel roads that don't offer great traction. 4H allows you to drive at normal speeds while maintaining good traction.

Four-Low

The four-low or 4L setting is great for deep sand, mud, snow, and rough terrain that makes driving difficult. You can get moving in these rough conditions, but you can't drive faster than about 40 miles per hour.
